ONE PERCENT FOR THE PLANET
1% For The Planet is an alliance of businesses committed to leveraging their resources to create a healthier planet. Members recognize their responsibility to and dependence on a healthy environment and donate at least 1% of their annual net revenues to environmental organizations worldwide. The alliance aims to prove that taking environmental responsibility is good for business.
1% Mission Statement
We joined One Percent For the Planet when we launched our first product, Jimi™ wallet,
and have just contributed our first one percent of net sales revenue to
Global Green USA.
Global Green is collaborating with a number of organizations including the National
Council of Churches, the Healthy Building Network, the Enterprise Foundation and Habitat
for Humanity to build green houses in the Gulf Coast area in the aftermath of Katrina.
One of the aspects of one percent that particularly appealed to us was the freedom
to contribute to whichever organization we feel as a company was most in line
with our objectives, and/or was doing something very timely to help a particular
environmental issue. The idea of one percent of sales was also appealing as it is an
'honest' percentage. You can fudge percentages of profit (which is why the organization
changed from that approach), but there's no faking a sales figure. We're proud to be a part
of the One Percent For the Planet membership.
